Where is the 2018 Phi Kappa Phi Biennial Convention?
The 2018 Phi Kappa Phi Biennial Convention will be held at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
What are the dates of convention?
Thursday, August 2, 2018 – Saturday, August 4, 2018
Why should I attend?
The 2018 Biennial Convention will bring together Society leadership, officers and members to conduct formal business of the Society. Attending convention will allow your chapter to have a voice in the governance of the Society. In addition, you will have the opportunity to interact with other officers, members, Society leadership and staff across three days of networking, learning and sharing.
Who from my chapter should attend?
Per Society Bylaws, one delegate from each chapter should attend the biennial convention. Each chapter should nominate an officer who is a member and will be a chapter leader during the 2018-2019 academic year and can help implement the ideas learned at convention. The chapter delegate will be able to complete the registration process here.

What meals are provided during convention?

Thursday: Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all convention participants. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be included as part of the optional Mill City Museum tour ($50/per attendee).
Friday: Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided to all convention participants.
Saturday: Breakfast and a grab-and-go executive boxed lunch will be provided to all convention participants.
Breaks including beverages and afternoon snacks will also be included. One reception will be held Friday night.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
There is an opportunity to indicate any special dietary concerns during the registration process.
Will internet access be provided during convention?

Yes. Details for internet access in the meeting rooms will be provided when you check-in.

What is the recommended attire of convention?
Business casual or business dress attire is recommended for all sessions and events.
What is the weather like in Minneapolis during July?
The average high in Minneapolis in August is 80 degrees with a low of 62 degrees. Plan for warm weather!

Registration
How do I register?
Online registration is available here . Once the chapter delegate has completed registration, a confirmation email will be sent. 
What is the registration fee?
Early Bird registration will last through May 15 at a rate of $350. After May 15, the fee will increase to $400. At midnight CDT on July 16, online registration will close. Onsite registration will be available at convention with a rate of $450.
When is the deadline to register?
Online registration will close at midnight CDT on July 16. Onsite registration will be available with a rate of $450.
What is included in registration?
All scheduled events at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center including meals and receptions. 
What is not included in registration?
The optional Thursday evening excursion to the Mill City Museum is not included in the registration fee. The cost of this event is $50 per attendee which includes transportation and heavy hors d'oeuvres.
Are guests allowed to attend?
Yes. Guests may attend for a fee of $300 per guest.
How do I check in at convention?
The registration desk will be open Wednesday, August 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Phi Kappa Phi staff members will be on hand to assist and direct you to the check-in desk. The registration desk will open again on Thursday, August 2 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
 
Travel and Accommodations
How do I book my hotel reservation and what is the cost?
Convention participants are required to stay at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center to qualify for reimbursement from the Society. Phi Kappa Phi has secured a room block at a special rate for attendees. This reduced rate expires July 10.  Click here to make reservations.
If you are unable to book a room in the block, you will not be reimbursed for an amount greater than the room block rate ($159/night).
Can our chapter be billed directly?
Chapters must pay registration fees up front during the registration process. All chapters must also book hotel and transportation accommodations on their own prior to convention. Reimbursements to chapters for lodging and transportation will be made following convention.
How will my chapter be reimbursed?
The national office will reimburse airfare or mileage and up to three nights of lodging (based on length of stay) for one delegate per chapter. Convention participants are required to stay at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center to qualify for reimbursement from the Society.
What is not covered for reimbursement?
Delegates will not receive reimbursement for:
- Convention registration fee
- Hotel rates above the amount charged for the room block reserved for the event
- Baggage fees
- Extra/upgraded seats
- Ground transportation
- Airport parking
- Thursday evening excursion
We suggest that the chapter cover any of these expenses for the delegate.
Is there a cancellation policy?
Cancellation notices may be made by phone but must be confirmed in writing to the national office. Cancel by July 16, 2018, to receive a full refund minus a $25 processing fee. No refunds will be given after July 16, 2018.
Are there available discounts for airfare and ground transportation?
Special transportation discounts are available for convention attendees. All airfare and ground transportation information is available in the Travel tab of this website.
How do I get from the airport to the Minneapolis Marriott City Center?
The Minneapolis Marriott City Center is located 12.4 miles from the Minneapolis-St. Paul international Airport. Taxi is approximately $50 each way. Bus service fees are $2.25 each way. In addition, SuperShuttle has provided a discount code for convention participants. Reservations are required and more information is available in the Travel tab of the convention site.

Programming
Who is the keynote speaker?
Julie Schumacher, author of Dear Committee Members and Doodling for Academics, will provide the keynote address on Thursday morning. 
Will there be a panel discussion?
Yes. Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to a panel discussion with provosts/chief academic officers from across the nation as they engage on the issues facing higher education. The panel discussion will be hosted Thursday afternoon.
What is the Mill City Museum tour?
This exclusive event will provide guests with a look at a National Historic Landmark. The Mill City Museum sits on the Mississippi riverfront and is built within the ruins of what was once the world’s largest flour mill. In addition, attendees will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres while networking with fellow Phi Kappa Phi members.
Will I have a chance to meet with my region?
Yes. Regional meetings will be hosted Friday morning. Breakfast will be served during these meetings. 
Is attendance mandatory at any of the sessions?
Yes. The delegate orientation is mandatory for all delegates. The session will be held Thursday, August 2, at 8:30 a.m. 
Will presentations be made available to attendees?
All convention material, including presentations, will be available on the mobile app. The app will be released one week prior to convention, and all attendees will be notified at that time. Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring an electronic device of choice to view materials during convention.
